Borghe Armchair – a homage to the bourgeois code

The Borghe armchair explores comfort as a cultural code of the Milanese bourgeois interior of the 1960s. Its name, derived from borghese, recalls an era when good taste was regarded as a social obligation. The project looks to a new model of Milanese living – modern and open to experimentation, yet still closely connected to the Lombard tradition of craftsmanship, the quality of materials, and a distinctive culture of everyday life.

Borghe reinterprets this respectability from a slight distance, deliberately exaggerating the bourgeois pursuit of comfort. Generously inflated segments come together in a substantial, sculptural silhouette; the deep seat draws the body into the form, while rounded edges, pronounced seams, and the natural tension of the leather emphasise its material presence. The armchair retains the dignity of the salotto milanese, but its restrained seriousness gives way to a contemporary freedom of form. In this way, the homage to the aesthetics of the 1960s becomes not a literal quotation, but an opportunity to look at its respectability with a subtle sense of irony.
